A little bit more Halloween...

We had one last Halloween event tonight - a Post Halloween Potluck with my mommy group. Sadie adores playing with the older kids. She got along great with the group leader's 4 year old. They were so sweet together that I started to wish she had a big sister. Too bad things don't work that way!!

I had been hanging out with this group for a few months and I hadn't gotten around to the whole "2 mom family" thing. It never came up since we're just "moms" hanging out. I didn't bother to explain.
I finally told them tonight and it went really well. I'm not a "coming out" kind of person. I don't like explaining things over and over. It's not like you need to come out and say you have a husband. Things have certainly changed since being pregnant and having Sadie!! I better get used to this!

Sadie's first Halloween!

Sadie had a fantastic Halloween!

All of Sadie's classes last week had Halloween themes. I now know "The 5 Little Pumpkins" poem by heart.
On Wednesday night we went to a family fun night at our parent-child centre. This was Sadie's first time in her costume! She really enjoyed the special storytime (indcluding the 5 little pumpkins).

Friday was our biggest Halloween day! In the morning we went to a special Trick or Treat Parade for little kids. It was really busy but so much fun. I've only been in our new town for a few months but I still ran into many people from our various programs. It's nice to feel part of a community!

We also went Trick or Treating at a local mall that evening. They had a Monstar Mash afterwards with a live band. Sadie brought home a lot of candy from these two events!

On Saturday we went to Boo at the Zoo! I have to admit there was a lot less Boo than I was anticipating but it was still fun. How can you go wrong with animals, kids in costumes and hanging out with other moms? I'm not sure how to link off iPhone but we were joined by Amy, Melissa and their son Jackson as well as Shannon (private blog) and her two boys!

FINALLY it was Halloween! We carved pumpkins and decorated the house. We decided that Sadie didn't need to go out to Trick or Treat this year so she stayed home to give out candy. We had a lot less kids than we'd expected (around 60) so we have A LOT of leftover candy. What are we going to do about THAT? lol

oh, and I almost forgot! Sadie made some "bumkins" too!

Randomness

I am really really bad at wanting to write something but not doing it and then holding back other things and then not blogging at all. Trip report will be up as soon as I get pictures uploaded to Blogger.

Until then, here are those other things that I'm holding back.

- Saturday was Sadie's 10 month Birthday. Where has the time gone? D has started to call her a "Twaddler" (like a Tween). She's crawling all over the place and can even walk using pushing toys or a chair. I'm loving this stage so much except for how she attempts to eat everything she picks up (hair, lint, prehistoric cheerios, etc).

- My mom has been living with us for almost 2 months and it's so far been working (provided I ignore her pity parties). The divided space is key.
I know that a lot of people are probably still shaking their heads over our decision to do this but it pretty much had to happen to get her back on track (emotionally and financially). She doesn't particularly like me but she LOVES Sadie and is just an amazing Granny to her.
We have until March to pay our deposit for Sadie's school (start Sept 2011) so we'll play it by ear. Regardless, Granny is in the basement until we send her to a seniors home. (;

- Drama with my cousin over her son's 1st birthday. He's turning 1 next weekend and so far no invite to the party. I've been keeping tabs on it through my mom and found out today that the party is next weekend... BUT.. fill in the excuse that the party is at her MIL's house and she's invited too many people... blah blah blah... because my cousin married into a big Italian family which seems to trump her *own* family.
And then my Aunt pulls out the "why don't we just have a get together for Roman and Sadie to celebrate birthdays together". Umm... doesn't that sound awfully familar? Like when they got together and tried to plot a "get together" INSTEAD of going to my baby shower!?? Why is it that Sadie keeps getting screwed over when my cousin gets TWICE the attention?
This brings up Sadie's 1st Birthday. The hurt feelings over my baby shower are coming back all over again and I don't want to do it again. What's happening with my cousin is enough to proove it wil be exactly the same. My parents won't want to be in the same room as each other and my friends will be too busy.
Screw it. I think we should go to Walt Disney World!!

Christmas Debate

I think we're at a standstill. Here's the issue:
We go big, decorate early and leave the tree up until New Years. This year, however, I'm not looking forward to decorating. All I can imagine is a month and a half of telling Sadie not to touch the tree/worrying about her eating a glass ornament.
The easy solution would be to put the tree in a blocked off area of the house but since our home is open concept, that won't work. Also, we'd love to have the tree in front of our bay window.
IMHO I think we should buy a smaller tree that fits *in* the window. D thinks we should put our 7.5 foot tree (yes, artificial) in front of the window and only decorate the top half!!
My mom suggested we put it in Sadie's Pac N Play.
Sheesh!! So GHETTO.
What are you doing this Xmas or what have you done in the past?

Food

After our visit with Ryan (trip report almost ready), I decided that it was time to introduce more "table foods" and purees to Sadie. I've also decreased her formula intake from 8 oz to 6 oz.
She's started eating full servings of Yo Baby yogurt with cereal, can eat a fruit and a vegetable purée (jars) and has had egg on toast and grilled cheese.
Here she is sneering at the homemade chicken noodle soup I made for her:

She won't even touch it! I had it for lunch and it was good!
Oh well!!

Quick update

We're still in NY. D is sitting in the car while Sadie sleeps in her car seat and I'm inside relaxing while Ryan is sound asleep in his crib. The kids are both sooo tired. They adore playing with each other so bedtime has been a bit late and nap time has been sparse. Fortunately neither have been cranky and have managed extremely well throughout all of this excitement. We have such good babies!!
We'll be leaving tomorrow morning for our drive home. Sadie slept most of the way down but it was a long trip at 12 hours. Not bad considering we were stopping a lot and we stupidly arrived at the George Washington Bridge (to Manhattan) at 4:00 pm! Yep, rush hour!!
Lots of pictures to be added when we get home!

More thoughts...

I don't know what's with me today but here I am again.
I can't stop thinking about our clinic issue. D has a co-worker who is using the same clinic and she had no idea our doctor had left and she's mid cycle with her right now!
After reading RateMDs and seeing the reviews of the doctor we'd likely be assigned, we've decided to jump ship. D has promised we can do IVF if we get low on supplies so I'm not too worried - yet.
One of the complaints about our clinic was that it was expensive. They charged us $350 for cycle monitoring, something we haven't heard anyone else paying. Apparently IVF is about 4k higher than other clinics as well. If our doc was still there we'd be staying but I don't see the point now. I'm just soooo glad I made the call now. This gives us plenty of time to get on waiting lists. I also suspect that I can get my met from our GP. Hopefully.
