I need a hug

Really badly. ):
Today has been SHIT:
I'm STILL at my mom's. My "vacation" here ended about a week ago when I became super homesick. The problem is that the work at the house keeps dragging out.
We were supposed to have our cable installed today but the cable company, who previously couldn't install because of our poor wiring, took issue with our BRAND NEW DEDICATED cable lines. We went from having Analog TV, Internet and Phone to ONLY TV by the afternoon because the jackass cable guy cut out the old cables BEFORE verifying the new ones worked. Now the cable company is blaming our electrician and our electrician is blaming the cable company. It seems that big cable company customer service department is paid to prove the customer is always wrong because I got little sympathy from them when I explained that we had 3 services, albeit not they way we wanted them, in the morning to a choice of only 1 in the afternoon. We now have a 3rd installation appointment with them where I'm sure they will still be completely fucking useless. To mitigate that possibility I've invited my electrician to be there.
As if that wasn't stressful enough our contractor found an acupuncture needle inside our front door. That would be #2 because I'd also found one on the drive way.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me the strength to deal with this because right now I'm sick with stress. All I can imagine is that our house is littered with acupuncture needles that Sadie will be able to find and swallow. Not to mention that I fear Sadie has already been pricked by one and infected by some scary disease.
There isn't a stitch of carpet in our home. I'm hoping and praying that I will be able to go over the place thoroughly enough to find any that may linger. If anyone has any advice on finding a needle (literally) in a haystack, please share.
btw, I called my doctor to discuss the associate risks of a needle stick and it's about 0. Not that I feel any better.
Yep, I need a hug. A big one.

Food

I know I always get in trouble when I reference BBC but I'm going to do it again!
A December mom just posted a pic of her son chewing on a steak bone!!
It was under the heading "what do you feed your baby" and the responses varied from purees to Mr. Rib Eye who took top prize for OMG that seems so WRONG.
Sadie is so so far behind.
She isn't picky, she just doesn't care. Everything is more interesting (and tastier) than eating, especially things like her socks or her bib. Sticking her finger in her mouth or up her nose is also a fun meal time activity.
Over the last few weeks we've really picked things up. I can't buy our frozen organic purees here so we've switched to organic jarred. I think she likes it better which is pretty ironic considering I was so hell bent on NOT using jarred. Do you know how much that frozen stuff cost? Pretty much $1/tbls. I also didn't really want to load her up with a bunch of cereal but she eats it and that's the ultimate goal. Get her to swallow and then switch it up. I was holding back so much at first but I think we're both getting the hang of this. I'm still waiting every 3 days to introduce new foods though. How long does that last because this is turning into a long process!

Right now Sadie is eating as follows:
Breakfast: 8 oz bottle
Lunch: Cereal with fruit or veggie and 6 oz bottle
Dinner: Cereal with Fruit or veggie and 6 oz bottle
Bed: 8 oz bottle
+ Sadie has been getting up in the night AGAIN and is taking another 8 oz (not every night)

She's eating: Rice Cereal, Pears, Banana, Blueberry, Carrots, Peas, Green beans, Avacodo, and Sweet potato.
We've tried Baby Mum Mum's but 90% is spit out with a slight favour for Banana flavour.
We've tried Turkey and it was expulsively rejected. Poor Sadie.

Tomorrow is a new food day and I think we'll try corn. Rib Eye steak will be in a few YEARS! Seriously. These women want their kids to grow up too quickly!

Baby proofing

I'm still up north but I'm planning on returning home, hopefully, next week.
Since the major reno has almost been completed we are going to start making our new house our home. Part of that will be Baby proofing.
There are a lot of products out there and big money could be spent. Just throwing this out there wondering what others are doing?
The good news is that 100% of the outlets in our house are tamper proof thanks to the re-wire. Don't say we didn't get our money's worth out of that 14k job. lol
We know we need at least one baby gate for the top of our stairs (down) on the main floor. We'll likely get a second for the stairs down to the basement once Sadie is walking and may come in the front door on her own. Until then the main floor gate covers that risk.
We're also thinking of gating off the kitchen so Sadie will have the run of the living room, dining room and hall without worrying about kitchen hazards.
We want to make the house safe without going overboard. Afterall, Sadie will be cared for in our home while we are at work. She'll be spending a lot of time in the house!
We're pretty much starting from scratch so if anyone has products they love, please let us know.

Btw, in response to my previous entry - I'm still angry about it. However you're right that part of my issue is that I still, 8 months later, am completely heartbroken that I was unable to BF Sadie. I hate formula. Hate it. Hate it. Hate it. It embarasses me that I have to use it because I think people judge women who do not BF. Being chased out of a store and being accused of stealing is just icing on the cake.

Major Vent

D says I'm overreacting but I don't care. This is a
sensitive topic.
Fucking formula.
We had to drive into the city today to buy more. As usual it was a hassel because the brand I use is always sold out and today was no exception. We did our grocery shopping, I fed Sadie in the store, and then we checked out.
This is when I was accused TWICE of stealing formula because I had my used canister in the basket under my stroller. At the cash register the cashier received a phone call instructing her to check. I told her it was mine and said they didn't even have any on the shelf for sale. I was then made to open the canister. I did. I was pissed off but fair enough. This is when I became livid. Not twently steps from the cashier I was stopped by a plain clothes security gaurs who asked me if "I forgot to pay for something". Again, open up the canister, which had a walmart sticker on it, and show it was empty. Again stating they didn't even have that formula on the shelf for sale. I asked to speak to the manager who refused to apologise because he said I was never accused of stealing. Right.
We returned $150 worth of groceries to that store. Over a $24.99 can of formula that they couldn't have sold me to begin with.
We're now at Walmart, our third stop looking for formula, and they have it. They always do because poor people like me feed their babies formula and apparently also often steal it.
BF moms can bring their breasts with them to feed their baby on demand but when I bring my baby's food into a store I get treated like a criminal.

Tears!

Sadie had a complete freak out at the library today. I had no idea she was a old enough to be frightened by the sight of something. Sounds, yes, but a scary object?
Here she is sitting on the "bear" rug.

This is her noticing the REAL bear rugs under the table.

This was a couple of seconds before she started screaming/crying. I picked her up and she calmed down when we left the room.
Perhaps a milestone? Or maybe just coincidence?
Despite the scary bear rugs this library was very cool. We'll be going back for storytime during the week.

Toothies

We now have 6!
The last few nights have been soooo much fun. The 4 top have cut through so I'm sure things are going to get better, not worse. Poor boo!

She thought this was very funny -- this photo looks like torture but it wasn't!

Paranoid?

So, we're currently without wireless Internet but we're adding it again. There was just a story on the news about how it could make kids sick. I was already leaning on the I-don't-really-want-it side before I saw this.
How many out there have home WiFi? Anyone have concerns?
When we lived in the condo we had several WiFi signals coming into our unit. In the house there is only one that gets picked up occasionally. Therefore, it seems that we've already drastically decreased Sadie's exposure. But what can you really do? WiFi is everywhere. Even our home alarm uses wireless technology.
BTW, this is just a glimpse into my constant worryfest!!

Island Vacation Part 2

Excellent thoughts about #2 from my previous entry. I'm so confused about it all. I would LOVE to have our kids 2 years apart but being pregnant again so soon seems too soon!! If D would do it than I'd jump at it! No fuss! But seriously, I can still remember the heartburn and the fatigue! I miss my fat belly being fat with a purpose but that's about it at this point! Why does life go so fast? I really wish things would stop feeling like a race to the finish line (and then repeat). Ugh. There is also the fact that I have been an anxious mess with Sadie and the sadness. I'm looking past that because it isn't logical. I'm being set up with a PPD clinic for when I get back in town. Hopefully I'll figure out what's going on with me because until then I can only guess at what's going on. Hopefully this doesn't happen for #2 but it's not going to stop me regardless - at least I'll be prepared.
As for our vacation (since I derailed the previous entry);
A real treat being at Granny's has been meeting and playing with her Dog (Bear) and her cat (Smokey). Sadie LOVES them both. We have been practising petting the kitty without pulling his tail and we're getting good at it! I'm happy to see that Sadie is not fearful of animals. Bear is a HUGE dog with a big deep bark and we've only had tears once!
We go for daily walks to the marina to see the boats and we've been paddling in the water. Tomorrow we are going to go to the beach for some swimming!
Sadie has also really started taking to her food while here. I have her on solids twice a day now and she's just started eating with interest. I'm looking forward to getting home and starting her on some new foods and making a consistant schedule. We've pretty much been rotating pears, bananas, blueberries, carrots, and sweet potatos with cereal (rice). It's so nice that (I think) she's finally caught on (swallowing AND eating a fair portion). I feel SO behind with this since I know so many of the other December babies are eating such great menus of food and I'm sure on a much greater scale. Clearly my baby is a picky eater just like her Momma!
My mom pretty much forced me to get a play pen for Sadie today. We have one at home but it didn't fit in the car. She wants Sadie trained to sleep in her crib for naps ASAP and I see her point but I am holding strong on night co-sleeping. The problem is that there have been a couple of incidents. She fell out of bed at home and slid off the mattress (on the floor) that we're sleeping on here. So yeah, my mom thinks it's time to get her in a crib "for her own safety" and I don't think I'll hear the end of it. Granny may have been losing it but give her a purpose and then watch out!!!!

Sadie LOVES to eat books!

Island Vacation

Sadie and I made it up to granny's house last Friday. The 7 hour drive took about 8 hours - not bad! My road trip confidence has increases significantly.
Things have been rocky since we arrived. I'm still stressed out and my mother hasn't reacted the way I'd hoped. Like from everyone else in my life I keep hearing that I need to chill out because "Sadie will sense it" or worse end up like me! In addition we disagree on co-sleeping and I'm not sure how many more ways she can bring it up.
I'm starting to wonder if the root of my issues the building panic over how fast this year is going? I know I'll receive little sympathy considering how lucky I am to have a year but we all have an amount of time and that time ends. My mom took Sadie for a walk today and I ended up chasing her down the street after they left. I'm clearly a long way from where I need to be.
All of the house buying and moving had been setting us up for Sadie's care. I know anyone reading this blog for any amount of time will wonder WTF when they learn this but it is my mother who is moving in with us. Yes, my mom. They one that has causes so much grief in my life.
The thing is that I've learned a lot when I started to listen to her. We really had a great breakthrough after her meltdown last November. She pretty much feels it's her purpose in life to care for Sadie. She said she was so hurt when we said we didn't need her and couldn't imagine why we'd chose daycare instead.
I have reservations about this. Many. But at the same time my mother is really good with Sadie and Sadie loves her. It will be nice leaving her at home and not needing external care. It will be really nice.
In other thoughts, I've been obsessively thinking about #2 lately. My cousin (who I'm not in competition with) told me she's starting to TTC #2 in February. Holy $&@# that seems soon! We had planned on either next fall or perhaps the following spring. I'm starting to think about earlier and earlier but really have no idea! I'm also worried that a driving factor in this obsession is the idea thy I'll have more time with Sadie when a new baby arrives. Wrong attitude, right? What are others thinking about when it comes to #2, 3 etc. How soon are you going to start? Is 2 years apart your ideal?
